Our Story

Built by Someone Who
Hates Seeing Things Wasted.

RandomSnail exists because two problems kept bothering me — businesses throwing away data they should be destroying, and perfectly good technology ending up as waste when people nearby couldn't afford a laptop.

This Started as
a Hobby.

For as long as I can remember I've enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together. Rebuilding old computers, designing replacement parts in CAD, printing them on a 3D printer — if something can be fixed, I'd rather fix it than replace it. That's just how I think.

My career hasn't followed a straight line — retail management, SMDI training, HGV logistics. Each taught me something different about accountability, planning and secure handling. But through all of it, repairing and refurbishing technology remained the constant.

I've also seen the digital divide first-hand. Students without laptops. Families sharing one device. Community organisations running on hardware from a decade ago. Meanwhile businesses were disposing of equipment that still had years of life left — often with no idea what happened to the data on it.

Those two problems have the same solution. If equipment can be securely sanitised and refurbished, it shouldn't become waste — and it shouldn't sit in a skip when someone nearby needs it.

I built RandomSnail from the ground up — largely on evenings and weekends — while studying for a Level 5 Computing degree at UCS. Every process, every policy, every procedure has been designed with security, compliance and sustainability in mind from day one, not added as an afterthought.

The Problems
We Solve.

⚠️

Invisible data risk

Too many businesses hand old equipment to a recycler, get a receipt, and assume the data is gone. It isn't. Format and delete are not data destruction. When a device ends up in the wrong hands, your business carries the liability — not the recycler.

🔗

No audit trail

Multiple handoffs, undisclosed third parties, no documented evidence. When a client, auditor or regulator asks what happened to those drives, you need more than a collection receipt.

♻️

Unnecessary waste

Most end-of-life IT equipment isn't at the end of its life. It just needs wiping, cleaning, and a bit of attention. Destroying everything isn't just wasteful — it's often unnecessary.

Three Principles
That Guide Everything.

01

Compliance

Built around ADISA guidance and the NCSC Golden Trio from the start. NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 data sanitisation, WEEE-compliant processing, full chain of custody documentation. Formal certifications are on the roadmap — the standards came first.

02

Security

Every device is treated as if it contains confidential information — because it probably does. Single-handler chain of custody, no undisclosed third parties, verified wipes with SHA-256 audit trail. You get proof, not promises.

03

Community

10% of all Grade-A refurbished hardware goes to Somerset students facing financial barriers. Zero landfill policy. Local jobs, local impact. The business exists to make a difference here, not somewhere else.

This Is Only
the Beginning.

As RandomSnail grows, I want to bring practical technology workshops into schools, colleges and community groups across Somerset — from primary school through to T Level students.

Sustainable technology

Longer term, I'd love to open a local shop and maker space — somewhere people of all ages can learn, repair, experiment and create together. Technology shouldn't feel mysterious or expensive.

I've applied for support through UnLtd to help get there faster, but my aim has always been to build something that stands on its own feet. If you're an organisation that shares the same values — a school, a charity, a business — I'd love to hear from you.

Why RandomSnail?

Snails aren't fast. But they're persistent.

RandomSnail reflects my belief that doing the job properly matters more than doing it quickly. Every device handled carefully. Every drive securely processed. Every customer deserving complete confidence that their data is gone.

Sometimes slowing down is exactly what quality requires.
